StatSheet's Ohio Valley Player of the Week for January 14th goes to Belmont's Ian Clark. StatSheet's Ohio Valley Freshman of the Week goes to Belmont's Jeff Laidig. Finally, Belmont's Reece Chamberlain has received StatSheet's Ohio Valley 6th Man of the Week.
Clark led the Ohio Valley in three pointers (4.5 per game). He also tallied 3.5 rebounds per game, 80% shooting, and 31 points per game. The Belmont senior played well for the Bruins in wins against Southeast Missouri State and Tennessee-Martin.
Clark topped all scoring for the Bruins with 30 points while also adding 3 steals in a big 107-72 win against Southeast Missouri State. In the next game he led all scoring and rebounding with a 32 point and 4 rebound performance in a huge 90-53 win against Tennessee-Martin.
This is the second time this season that Ian Clark has been named StatSheet Ohio Valley Player of the Week. The runner-up this week is senior Isaiah Canaan from Murray State. Honorable mention goes to senior Kellen Thornton from Tennessee State. Corey Walden, who finished sixth, was the highest ranking player from Eastern Kentucky.
StatSheet Ohio Valley Freshman of the Week: Belmont's Jeff Laidig
Jeff Laidig averaged 9 minutes starting both games for Belmont. In the win over Southeast Missouri State, Laidig tallied 3 points and 2 rebounds. Following that in the win against Tennessee-Martin, he dialed up 2 points and 2 rebounds.
This is a first for Jeff Laidig, who has never won the StatSheet Ohio Valley Freshman of the Week. The runner-up is Erik McCree from Murray State. Honorable mention goes to Chris Horton from Austin Peay.
StatSheet Ohio Valley 6th Man of the Week: Belmont's Reece Chamberlain
Reece Chamberlain, a sophomore and a 6-1 guard, averaged 13 minutes over the two games for the Bruins. In the win over Southeast Missouri State, Chamberlain added 2 rebounds and 3 assists. After that, in the win over Tennessee-Martin, he racked up 9 points and 4 rebounds.
This is the second StatSheet Ohio Valley 6th Man of the Week honor for Reece Chamberlain. Our own Orlando Williams is runner up. Michael Green, a junior forward from Tennessee State, earns honorable mention. Eastern Kentucky players have not yet been named StatSheet Ohio Valley Player of the Week this season.
